The World’s Biggest Coffee MorningPosted by Holly Anderson on June 7 2017.
There’s no better excuse to eat cake then if it’s for a worthy cause and The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning organised by Macmillan Cancer Trust provided us with the perfect opportunity. If you know the proceeds from the cake you’re eating are going to improve the lives of people living with cancer, you almost feel obliged to eat more. And more. And a tiny bit more …
Macmillan Cancer Support held their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraising event on Friday 27th September and people all across the UK held their own coffee mornings with all the donations going to Macmillan. It was a massive success and everyone involved had enormous fun – how could you not with a piece of cake in one hand and a coffee in the other!
To show their support for the cause our friends over at Hen Heaven took part and held their own cake sale and ‘bake off’. They managed to raise a whopping £687.05 through the sale of their homemade cakes. The cakes were tasted and judged by a panel and staff bought raffle tickets and paid for waitress service tea and coffee. To make it even more interesting the party planners had a ‘Grannies and Grandpas’ fancy dress theme – the perfect cake connoisseurs!
The idea behind the coffee morning is so simple and such an effective way to raise money for a good cause and if you’re a budding Mary Berry it gives you the chance to flex your baking skills. It’s also the perfect chance to get some feedback on your creations that isn’t from family members who feel obliged to show their appreciation (despite a sunken middle or charred edges.)
If you do enjoy pottering around the kitchen, apron clad with flour up to your elbows, a Vintage Cupcake Decorating hen party could be right up your street. You’ll learn the fashionable art of sugar-craft and get to experiment with royal icing and fondant. You can then enjoy your treats at an afternoon tea party complete with cake stands and vintage tea cups! Or a Chocolate Making Party where you’ll learn how to temper, mould, shape and decorate chocolate could be perfect for you and your friends. To spice things up a bit, why not add a naked chocolatier to proceedings and let them guide you through the chocolate making process.
Whatever the occasion, a cuppa and a slice of cake always goes down well!
