It was a sad day in Hollywood yesterday, as Dame Elizabeth Taylor final gave up her battle with heart failure. Elton John described her untimely death in the most perfect way possible:

“We have just lost a Hollywood giant. More importantly we have just lost an incredible human being”.

Liz Taylor lived her life as one of the original Hollywood Pin-Ups, winning two Oscars throughout her seventy years as an actress. Liz was a constant advocate of glamour and style, and has been noted as the leading lady of the Hollywood Golden Age. Last night Mike Nicoles – director of Taylor’s ‘Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ – stated:

“The shock of Elizabeth was not only her beauty but also her generosity”

Throughout her life, Elizabeth Taylor not only stared in dozens of films/T.V shows, she also worked along side AIDs charities and became a spokeswoman for AIDs research. Her role as spokeswoman earned her the Jean Herscholt Humanitarian Academy Award in 1992. On 16th May 2000 a ceremony was held in Buckingham Palace where this wonderful woman was given the title of Dame Commander of the Order of The British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.

At the time of her death, Liz was surrounded by her four children. She has left behind ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren – she will be sorely missed.

The actress was often jokingly referred to as ‘Mrs Hilton Wilding Todd Fisher Burton Burton Warner Fortensky’ due to her impressive eight marriages (twice to Richard Burton)!
