Bollywood-themed parties are becoming very popular around here – even people who aren’t looking at doing one of our great Bollywood dancing classes regularly ring us up to see if we have any ideas for what to do and what to serve at a Bollywood themed party.

So to help you all out, we’ve had our lovely teacher Nimrita put together some mouth-watering recipes that are guaranteed to go down well… Your guests will feel like they’ve taken a trip to India once they’ve tried these tasty treats.

Great Indian Recipes For A Party

Masala Peanuts (For lovers of spice!)

Peanuts (unroasted) – 2 cups (You can also use almonds or cashew nuts…even mix them all together!)
Oil- I tsp
Chilli Powder – ½ tsp (Depending on how adventurous you’re feeling!)
Garam Masala – ¼ tsp
Salt – ½ tsp

Put peanuts onto a flat plate and microwave for 1 minute on high power
Pour oil, chilli powder and garam masala over the peanuts and shake so they are evenly covered
Pop back into the microwave for 2 minutes, making sure the peanuts and not burning!
Give them one last shake and leave them to rest for 5-10 minutes, allowing the peanuts to become crispy

Aloo tikki (Spiced hash brown)

5 large potatoes (or instant mash for the lazy ones!)
1 onion (finely chopped)
Garam Masala- 1 tsp
Salt- ¾ tsp
(Other spices can be used as well)
Oil (to put into frying pan)

Peel and boil potatoes, mashing them until they are smooth
Add the finely chopped onion to your potato mix along with all the other spices
Using your hands make into round shaped flattened balls
If you find the mixture is not bonding together, just use some oil or melted butter to bond together
Heat frying pan with oil and fry the potatoes on each side until golden brown and crispy
Serve with chutney or ketchup

Masala and Lemoc Corn on the Cob

This one’s really simple…

Take the peel off the corn on the cobs (they can be broken into smaller pieces or kept whole)
Spread butter over the corn and place under the grill or in the oven until golden brown and cooked
Cover with masala and drizzle lemon juice on and you’re good to go! Just remember to pop some toothpicks on the table!
