In 1621 Pilgrims and Native Americans shared an autumn harvest meal that is acknowledged today as the first thanksgiving. However it wasn’t till 1863 in the midst of the civil war , that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national thanksgiving day for every November.
During this time the tradition of hunting turkeys, harvest and entertainment is celebrated all over the nation as a reminder of the pilgrims first successful harvest. A lot of the traditions was campaigned by the American Writer Sara Josepha Hale, as well as making thanks giving a national holiday.
