Charlotte Elizabeth DianaPosted by Alice on June 7 2017.
The name of Britain’s new princess was a strictly protected secret; until Monday. “Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge” was announced by Kensington Palace in the afternoon, after the Queen met her for the first time. Whole Great Britain is celebrating the birth of the fourth in the line to the throne.
Elizabeth is probably the most obvious name. It is a salute to Her Majesty The Queen, as well as Kate and her mother, who both have it as their middle name. It is delighting that they included Diana; a tribute to the Prince’s late mother. The name Diana was for some people a necessity, for others a surprise. However, the name Charlotte fits perfectly in this scheme of honouring several family members. Charlotte is the female version of Charles; in honour of William’s father, Charles, his uncle Charles Spencer and his brother Harry, who has Charles as his middle name. A lucky coincidence is that Kate’s sister Pippa has Charlotte as a middle name, too.
Experts say that the newborn Princess’ name is a “nicely balanced compliment” – royal history as well as private connections.
What happens next?
After they left St. Mary’s Hospital on Saturday evening, they slept the first nights in Kensington Palace. They are supposed to leave London for their country residence in Norfolk on Wednesday. The property was given by the Queen after their wedding 2011. The Royals will stay there the next weeks to adjust to their new life as a family of four.
