Brighten Up the Blue Monday

This day is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. The idea originated in 2004 when the first depressing Blue Monday was announced.

Why is the Blue Monday on the third week of January?

Well if you put the combination of the weather, plus the unpaid bills, being broke after the Christmas and New Year’s Eve, failed New Year’s resolutions and the overweight after the festive period this all pretty much sums up and doesn’t sound very positive.

According to Dr. C. Arnall, that is a psychologist at a Cardiff University, came up with the formula that proves that today is the most depressing day of the year.

His formula takes into account six different factors: weather conditions, debt, time since Christmas, time since our new year’s resolutions started failing, low motivation levels and feeling the need to take action. All those points were taken together and they pointed 19th January as ‘Blue Monday”.

Even though this day has been labelled as unhappiest day of the year it is not necessary to feel miserable. As Dr. C. Arnall said if you manage to understand all the factors you can prevent from becoming unhappy. Although, isn’t happiness a point of view?

Few tips to brighten up Blue Monday or any other day:

Dry Jan

If you are one of the brave ones and you are taking a part in dry January then you only have 12 remaining days of soberness. So you are more than half way through. Well done you! Not long left and you can catch up with drinking and celebrate the one month of being sober in February.

Counting days

Well if you dislike cold, rain and ugly weather then think that every day that passes is closer to summer. Soon the spring will come and gloomy days will be behind us.

Trends in 2015:

You can look forward to different fashion trends, sports events, as well as launching of the new films in the cinema and release of new books. The year has just begun and it is too early to moan over the weather and failed New Year’s resolutions or bills. Sooner you get over it the earlier you will feel better.

Kick off the New Year with a positive attitude. Because some said this is the most depressing of the year it doesn’t have to be your situation.
